About OPC Direct

A handbook for one subject: running a company on your own.

What it covers

OPC Direct is for freelancers, consultants, makers and software founders who run their business alone, and for people deciding whether to. It covers the legal forms a company of one can take in each country, country-by-country comparisons, public programmes for solo founders — including the one-person company (OPC) policies Chinese cities have issued since 2026, explained in English — tax and admin, the tools a solo business runs on, and real cases.

How guides are written

  • Guides are drafted with AI assistance from official and first-party sources, then checked against those sources before they are published.
  • Each rule links the registry, tax office or government page that sets it. If we cannot find a source for a rule or a number, we leave it out.
  • Cases use interview collections only to find businesses. Facts about a business come from its own website; revenue a founder has talked about is labelled founder-reported, with the year.

The assistant

The Ask box and the “Ask OPC Direct” button open an AI assistant that answers questions about your own set-up, with sources. It gives general information and says when a question needs an accountant, lawyer or other licensed professional.

How the site is funded

Some pages link to partner services for company registration, accounting and small business insurance. Here is how partner links work.

Corrections

Spotted an outdated rule or a broken source link? Tell the assistant which page and what changed — corrections are reviewed and the page is updated with the new source.
